Every great meal starts with someone who cares.
Behind every breakfast served, every decorated brunch buffet, and every favorite recipe prepared is a team of dedicated culinary professionals who choose to make a difference every single day. While many cooks, servers, and dishwashers could work in traditional restaurants, they have chosen a different path—one where the people they serve become neighbors, friends, and even family.
In this Staff Spotlight, we’re highlighting the incredible individuals who make our dining programs special. Their stories remind us that senior living is about much more than preparing and serving meals—it’s about creating comfort, building relationships, celebrating life’s moments, and making every resident feel at home.
We asked members of our culinary teams to share why they chose senior living and what makes this work so meaningful. Here are their stories.

As Culinary Director at Ridgemere Senior Living, I have always enjoyed working with older adults. I love hearing their stories, learning from their life experiences, and building meaningful relationships with them. Those connections are what make this work feel so rewarding.
Residents have taught me that life is about more than being busy. It is not about rushing from one thing to the next. They have shown me the importance of patience, kindness, and enjoying the little moments.
Listening to their stories is a reminder that everyone has a unique journey. There is always something to learn from people who have lived through so much. Their wisdom brings perspective to the work we do each day.
One favorite tradition is brunch. It gives the culinary team more time in the dining room with residents. Instead of staying behind the kitchen doors, we can serve, visit, and help make the meal feel more personal.
Success in culinary in senior living takes compassion, patience, flexibility, and teamwork. Cooking great food matters, but so does knowing the residents. Understanding their preferences and needs helps create a better dining experience.
Flexibility also makes a big difference. Each day can bring new requests, feedback, and opportunities to improve. A strong team supports one another and approaches each day with a positive attitude.
One moment that showed the impact of this work came through a resident’s feedback. After one meal, a resident shared that it tasted just like their mama used to make. That compliment meant so much.
Knowing that something I cooked brought back a special memory was incredibly rewarding. It helped the resident feel at home. Moments like that remind us that we are not just serving meals. We are creating comfort, connection, and meaningful experiences.
Every member of our culinary team has a unique story, but they all share one thing in common—a passion for serving others.
Whether they’re preparing a resident’s favorite comfort food, celebrating a birthday, or simply greeting someone with a smile, their work goes far beyond the kitchen. They create moments of joy, foster meaningful relationships, and help make our communities feel like home.
To every cook, server, dishwasher, and culinary leader who chooses senior living over a traditional restaurant, thank you. Your compassion, dedication, and commitment to hospitality make a lasting impact on the lives of our residents every single day.
Together, we’re not just serving meals—we’re serving memories.
